About Ovis
Ovis was founded in Aberdeenshire with a simple goal: to create a sustainable, locally rooted business that gives new purpose to Scottish wool. Through managing my own flock of sheep and being directly involved in the agricultural industry, I saw first hand the enormous quantities of wool left to rot or dumped simply because it has so little value. Historically, the wool check was a vital part of paying shepherds’ wages. Today, shearing a sheep costs considerably more than the return from the fleece, yet farmers must shear their sheep every year to meet welfare requirements. Seeing this inspired the creation of Ovis.
Our mission is to support farmers, reduce waste, and create products that make a real difference in gardens. By transforming this underutilised wool into Ovis pellets, we’re developing an alternative market that benefits local farming while providing gardeners with a natural solution that reduces the need for chemicals and plastic.
As a small, Scottish family-run business, we are proud to combine traditional materials with modern innovation. Every bag of Ovis pellets is part of a bigger story: enriching soil naturally, conserving water, and promoting sustainable gardening, while giving wool the value it deserves.
